The news: Woodside’s board has appointed Mark Cutifani as the company’s independent non-executive director, effective immediately.

The context: Prior to this, Cutifani served as chief executive of Anglo American for over nine years, overseeing restructuring and performance improvements across its global operations division. He also held the chief executive officer role at AngloGold Ashanti.

Cutifani brings more than four decades of experience in senior executive and operational roles across Australia and the United States.

He will be standing for election as a director at Woodside’s upcoming annual general meeting on 23 April 2026, with the board recommending shareholders vote in favour of his appointment.

What they said: “Mark brings extensive global leadership experience, deep operational expertise and a strong record of portfolio optimisation and capital discipline,” Woodside chair Richard Goyder said.

“His experience leading large and complex resource companies through periods of transformation and performance improvements will further strengthen the board’s oversight of strategy, risk and long-term value creation,” he added.
