Most Australians trust the ABC. Surveys show this time and time again. But there’s a notable exception: One Nation supporters.

Fresh DemosAU data provided to Capital Brief shows the ABC remains the country’s most trusted source of news, with 60% of the public saying they “usually” or “sometimes” trust the $1.2 billion taxpayer-funded public broadcaster, compared to 23% saying this is “rarely” or “never” the case.

This result is somewhat better than the result for newspapers and websites (59% trust compared to 26% distrust) and commercial TV and radio (58% trust versus 27% distrust) and significantly better than social media accounts and influencers (26% to 58%).

For the ABC, its trusted status holds true for more than half of almost every demographic, whether that be by age, gender or socio-economic status.
