Lisa Davies, chief executive of Australian Associated Press, will step down next month after a three-year tenure in which she helped stabilise the newswire’s financial future through a mix of public and private funding.

In a memo to staff on Tuesday, AAP chair Gail Hambly announced that Davies had tendered her resignation and would depart the business, having made significant progress ensuring the newswire’s sustainability and growth. Davies will leave the newswire in June.

“Notably, she and her team secured $11 million per year in federal government funding for the next three years — a testament to the team’s skill and commitment, and the government’s recognition of AAP’s crucial role in providing independent, fact-based news,” Hambly said in the memo, seen by Capital Brief.

Hambly also cited several other achievements during Davies’ leadership, including the relaunch of AAP’s cadet program following increased philanthropic support, the expansion of specialist desks and a technology upgrade.
