ABC boss Hugh Marks signals change in first address to staff
The former Nine CEO said there had never been a better time to be working in media or at the public broadcaster. But he said changes were likely coming.
ABC managing director Hugh Marks has flagged change in his first address to staff, outlining ambitions to deliver a best-in-class user experience and make the broadcaster the first choice for audiences nationwide.
In an email sent to all staff just after midday on Monday, Marks said there had never been a better time to work in media or at the ABC. He emphasised the need to experiment with new formats and reach Australians on the platforms they use.
Marks — a former CEO of Nine Entertainment and a former lawyer — began his five-year term at the ABC on Monday after being unanimously appointed by the broadcaster’s board in December. He succeeds David Anderson, who led the ABC for nearly six years.
Marks told staff that under his leadership, content would come first, and he could not rule out further change.
