AI won’t make engineers obsolete, Atlassian argues as it simplifies strategy
The Australian tech giant is making its Rovo AI assistant, previously $24 per head, free to all Jira and Confluence customers.
While unveiling a simplified artificial intelligence strategy, Atlassian’s head of AI has rejected concerns the technology could make the company’s products redundant.
Atlassian’s Rovo AI assistant, launched last year and until recently costing USD24 per employee, will now be free for users with Jira or Confluence subscriptions, the company announced overnight at its Team summit in Anaheim, California.
"AI requires behavioural change, you could do it the old way or you could try some new way," Atlassian Head of AI Sherif Mansour told Capital Brief. "There are many reasons why not to try the new way. One of them is, you have to go evaluate a new product, you have to get a procurement department to approve it... We want to eliminate that."
Pure software companies like Atlassian have recently been seen as cleaner beneficiaries of the AI wave, as investors scrutinise the enormous capital expenditures made by the likes of Microsoft and Google to build AI infrastructure.
