Airwallex expands with new credit card and New Zealand push
Airwallex is expanding with a new credit card in Australia and a New Zealand office, aiming to grow its global footprint and compete in the SME finance market.
Melbourne-founded fintech Airwallex has ramped up its expansion plans, preparing to launch a credit card in Australia and opening an office in New Zealand.
The Visa card, issued directly by Airwallex, is currently being piloted with select customers ahead of a broader rollout and formal launch later this year. In New Zealand, Lowry Gladwell — formerly of Lightspeed Commerce and Xero — has been appointed associate director and is looking to build a team of ten.
The credit card addresses a gap in Airwallex’s product suite and, if successful, will be expanded into other markets, vice president Matthew Sek told Capital Brief.
“We have three kinds of customers — those who have surplus cash and don’t really need credit, those who need credit occasionally, and those who are using credit all the time to grow their business,” he said.
