Albanese channels Andrews on tour
Journalists are not at the centre of the Albanese government's media strategy, which is following a blueprint laid out by the Victorian Premier Dan Andrews.
In the late afternoon of the penultimate day of the G20 summit in New Delhi, the travelling Australian journalists were getting tired and cranky.
This was our last chance to ask Anthony Albanese a question during the six-day trip. The prime minister emerged to deliver opening remarks which lasted for six minutes and 20 seconds. This is what journalists call “running down the clock” - something Albanese’s predecessor, Scott Morrison, would frequently do when under pressure.
It allowed Albanese to take just five questions, lasting seven minutes, before ending the press conference.
The SBS’s Anna Henderson asked Albanese to justify the overseas trip during a once-in-a-generation referendum campaign, and the prime minister leant into the question.
