Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been forced to reiterate his commitment to planned tax cuts after revelations his government sought advice from Treasury on the impact of changing them.
Albanese faced a round of questions on the 'stage 3' tax cuts on Wednesday morning after Capital Brief this week revealed the existence of two Treasury documents showing Treasurer Jim Chalmers sought advice from his department on the impact of amending the tax cuts.
Asked four times on the ABC's News Breakfast program whether he promised the tax cuts would go ahead in full, Albanese said “nothing has changed”.
“I know there's ongoing debate about the impact of those tax cuts but we support reducing tax,” he said from Cairns.
