All the business chiefs joining the PM's high stakes visit to China
Fortescue's Andrew Forrest, Macquarie's CEO and leaders from ANZ, BHP and Rio will all be on the plane. But despite talk of AI collaboration, the tech sector is glaringly absent.
Major Australian technology companies won’t be on the plane when Prime Minister Anthony Albanese jets to China, despite Beijing's push for deeper collaboration between the two countries on artificial intelligence (AI).
Albanese will travel for his second official visit to China on Saturday, just days after China’s ambassador to Australia Xiao Qian declared “now is the time” to expand the relationship after three years of stabilisation.
In tow will be a high-profile Australian business delegation, led by mining and energy chief executives, along with representatives from the university and banking sectors.
The Business Council of Australia, which is leading the delegation, confirmed it will meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Tuesday and “focus on unlocking increased economic opportunity for both nations”.
