Amazon pitches ads on Prime Video for Australia in 2024
The global e-commerce and entertainment giant has taken its plans to advertisers in Australia with promises to launch around June next year.
Global e-commerce giant Amazon is planning to introduce advertising on its Prime Video service in Australia in the latest move by a streaming platform to generate additional revenue to claw back costs and fund bets on original content.
The Seattle-based company has pitched its advertising plans to agencies and brands in Australia with promises to launch around June next year to an audience of roughly 5 million people, according to two sources familiar with the plans.
The advertising will be included by default to existing subscribers and will air against its original content and select licensed content. Amazon Prime Video is only available in Australia to new users as part of a broader Prime subscription — a bundle of e-commerce benefits including faster deliveries. A spokesperson for Amazon declined to comment.
Amazon is expected to launch ads in the US on Prime Video early next year, where users seeking no ads will be forced to pay an additional fee. It is unclear whether the same arrangement will exist in Australia.
