Amazon’s David Zapolsky has used a visit to Australia to warn politicians and regulators against introducing broad Big Tech regulation.

Sweeping regulations seen overseas are “new and untested”, Zapolsky told Capital Brief in an exclusive interview.

The Amazon senior vice president of global public policy and general counsel said “Australia has the unique opportunity to wait and learn from others about the effect an economy-wide ex-ante regulation would have on the country’s future innovation, investment and growth.”

During his visit, Zapolsky met with prime minister Anthony Albanese, and spoke with regulators including Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb.
