Anika Wells saga dominates as Labor seeks political reset

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has launched a media blitz to promote his under-16 social media ban as he attempts to kill off a damaging expenses scandal undermining his government.

Unfortunately for him, Communications Minister Anika Wells is at the centre of both issues.

A six-interview media blitz on Wednesday, along with a Kirribilli House press conference, ensured the social media ban featured prominently across news sites nationally. But Wells staying away on such a significant day would have raised more questions than it answered.

Late on Tuesday, Labor sought to head off questions about Wells by announcing she had referred herself to the Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority (IPEA).
