‘Another day, another scandal’: Pocock seizes on EY incident to call for ‘Big Four’ crackdown

One of the consulting industry’s fiercest critics in Canberra, who has previously called for the ‘big four’ to be split apart, says Australians have had enough of their scandals.

One of the consulting industry’s fiercest critics in Parliament has seized on the latest troubling incident involving a ‘big four’ firm to urge the federal government to impose further regulation on the sector.

Greens Senator Barbara Pocock, who among other things has previously called for the big four firms to be forced to separate their accounting and auditing arms and to be banned from government work, said the Labor government must act in response to the latest scandal hitting the sector, this time involving EY.

“Another day, another scandal at the Big 4, where ethics are optional, rules are self-made, and accountability is dodged,” Pocock said in a statement sent to Capital Brief.

“First PwC, then KPMG, now EY. The Big [Four] have lost their social licence. Australians have had enough of the repeated scandals. It’s time for Labor to regulate the Big 4.”
