ANZ retail boss apologises for firing senior staff in email mishap
Employees were prematurely made aware of their impending redundancies via a generic corporate missive.
ANZ has apologised after it inadvertently sent around an automated email to individual senior staff informing them their jobs would be terminated as part of a broad restructure of its retail bank under new CEO Nuno Matos.
The administrative message told impacted staff – senior managers and 'heads of' roles – that their job would be terminated and provided them with an exit date from the company before they had been properly briefed by a manager.
Interim retail bank chief executive Bruce Rush apologised profusely for the mistake in an internal email sent to his senior leadership cohort, and thanking them for their "understanding and patience during this difficult time".
"It was not our intention to share such sensitive news with you in this way and I apologise unconditionally," Rush said in a copy of the message obtained by Capital Brief.
