Aristocrat locked in IP court stoush with ex-game designer
Aristocrat Technologies' intellectual property dispute against former employee Dinh Toan Tran has begun with a scramble for documents and devices in Tran's possession via court search orders.
Poker machines giant Aristocrat Technologies has kicked off the year with a new intellectual property dispute against its former head of game design who was still employed by the company in December.
The case came to light in the Federal Court of Australia online registry after Aristocrat not only filed proceedings on Tuesday, but managed to obtain a fast-track search order against the designer, Dinh Toan Tran.
The order targeted more than 6800 files downloaded by Tran from Aristocrat’s servers on 3 December 2023, according to sworn evidence from the company's head of game development Tod Sarlemyn.
In a case management hearing in Sydney on Thursday, lawyers for Aristocrat, which has told Capital Brief it is "unable to comment on legal processes," confirmed the search order was executed on Wednesday.
