Atlassian shrugs off 'overblown' fears that AI will replace workers en masse

Australia’s knowledge workers are among the most fearful in the world of AI’s potential to take their job. It is an anxiety Atlassian would like to alleviate.

The company’s latest State of Teams report extolls the benefits of AI adoption, with Atlassian Head of Team Anywhere Lab Molly Sands saying in an interview that fears AI will replace jobs en masse are “overblown”.

“Work is going to change, there’s no question in my mind about that," said Sands, who leads Atlassian's research in helping teams to collaborate better. "But will it eliminate everyone’s job? No”.

That will be good news to the 50% of Australians who told Accenture they feel less secure about their career because of generative AI. Ipsos found Australians were the most anxious in the world about AI. The IMF, meanwhile, warned that about 30% of jobs in advanced economies could be diminished by AI.
