Australia's first female chief economist Besa Deda wants to fix the housing crisis
Besa Deda made history as Australia's first female chief economist at a bank. She now wants to have an impact on the housing debate.
In the early morning and late evening, Besa Deda can usually be found reading economic and political news.
“My friends joke it’s too much news, it must be information overload,” she says. It’s a routine she’s followed for years and, she admits, is partly because she doesn’t find time to delve past the headlines in office hours as chief economist of Westpac Business Bank, St George, Bank of Melbourne, BankSA and BT.
One of her childhood memories is, in fact, the news coverage of the Federal Budget.
“[My father] sat me down in front of the Federal Budget when it would be delivered at 7.30pm when I was eight,” she says.
