Business Council CEO Bran Black tied up on Big Tech dominance
There's a growing sense the relationship between Corporate Australia and Big Tech has never been frostier.
Business Council of Australia chief executive Bran Black has strong opinions about the future of the nation’s economy. But one thing he’s uncertain about is the role Big Tech should play in it.
In a wide ranging interview with Capital Brief to discuss the top business lobby group's pre-budget submission, Black shared his views on migration, productivity, attracting foreign investment and the increasingly heated issue of tech giant's dominance of certain markets in the economy.
Asked whether the BCA thinks Big Tech should be broken up he said "we’re looking at this quite closely at the moment,” choosing to focus on the issue of Meta and other platforms' relationships with news publishers in Australia.
It's a tricky topic for the BCA which counts most of Australia's biggest companies among its members, but also US giants such as Meta, Alphabet-owned Google, Amazon and Microsoft.
