Brambles turns to generative AI to boost pallet efficiency
The ASX-listed logistics company is leaning on AI to maximise the efficiency of its global pallet movements, in an effort to meet its sustainability goals.
Brambles has turned to generative AI to optimise its fleet of 348 million pallets, crates and containers, with the aim of maximising efficiency and conserving resources across the 60 countries in which it operates.
By serialising and digitising equipment movements and passing them through machine learning analysis, the logistics solutions provider can reduce the time assets spend idle. This minimises the number of pallets in circulation at any given time, Madrid-based head of sustainability Juan Jose Freijo told Capital Brief during a recent visit to Sydney.
“That has been the big revolution for us — asset productivity. The ultimate objective is that our assets are more productive and in a circular economy model, they bring environmental benefits and financial and business benefits as well.”
The strategy saves both money and resources, pushing Brambles closer to its ambition of a fully regenerative business model — one that creates resources rather than depletes them. In FY25, Brambles salvaged 25 million more pallets than in FY21, producing cost savings for both itself and its clients.
