Charlie Viola on being ‘normal’, the power of private assets and the road to $3b

The star adviser behind Viola Private Wealth may have his critics, but that comes with the territory. He says one factor has been the “absolute key” to his success.

Charlie Viola knows he has a “profile”. Because while the 47 year old former Pitcher Partners wealth manager is not a household name, in a well-heeled corner of the Australian financial press he is well known.

That profile has been a crucial factor in the rise of his own wealth management business, Viola Private Wealth, which in the space of 18 months has amassed $3 billion in assets under management and is now on the hunt for acquisitions.

Speaking to Capital Brief in a wide-ranging interview alongside co-founders Sean Ward and Andrew Levi, Viola says the business has now transcended his personal profile.

“What my superpower is at the end of the day is that I’m very human and I’m very normal, and I have very real conversations with clients about life and what it all means,” he says.
