Plenty of column inches have been devoted to the challenges facing the Chinese economy.

There are many. Mountains of debt have culminated in a heavily leveraged property sector and put giant developers like Evergrande and Country Garden at risk of default.

Accordingly, there was reluctance on the part of the Chinese government to go hard and early on stimulus.

Throw in sky-high youth unemployment, an ageing population, and a backdrop of slowing growth and it’s obvious there are some dark clouds on the horizon.
