Class action firm Pogust Goodhead readies Australian BHP case
Gramercy-backed Pogust Goodhead is aiming to file its first three Australian class actions by Christmas, with a new case against BHP among them.
Pogust Goodhead global managing partner Tom Goodhead has been “building ties in Australia” on a recent trip, as the firm readies its first class actions since setting up shop in Sydney earlier this year.
In an interview with Capital Brief, Goodhead explained that the Gramercy-backed firm’s launch in Australia had been delayed due to its ongoing pursuit of BHP in the UK, where it represents more than 700,000 people affected by the Mariana dam disaster in Brazil. The firm’s backers manage USD5.7 billion ($8.5 billion) in assets.
Now, with two new class action lawyers set to join the firm in the coming weeks and a team of nearly ten expected by the end of the year, Goodhead says the firm’s first Australian cases are nearly ready to proceed.
“We’re preparing a BHP case, another piece of litigation targeting separate operations in Latin America," Goodhead said.
