Opposition Leader Sussan Ley is mulling a more hardline stance to appease her right-wing flank and had been expected to unveil her revamped plans this week.
But multiple sources have told Capital Brief the announcement is expected to be shelved until next year after two terrorists — one a non-citizen — gunned down 15 innocents in Bondi on Sunday.
The decision to postpone the announcement is understood to have been made to avoid a febrile debate after the Bondi tragedy.
