Alec Renehan describes himself and his Equity Mates co-founder Bryce Leske as as "two idiots who had no idea what they are doing."

Well, those two idiots have just sold their podcast startup to Betashares, one of the country's largest exchange traded fund (ETF) providers, for a seven figure sum.

The sale price worked out to roughly $8.5 million, according to a source familiar with the deal terms who spoke on the condition of anonymity, comprised of a mixture of cash and Betashares equity.

Equity Mates raised a $1.2 million seed round in 2021 from Magellan Financial Group, Zip Co chief executive Larry Diamond and others.
