Former ACCC Chair Rod Sims has said Australia's moves towards net zero emissions provide the ideal opportunity for a competition policy re-think.

Sims, who led the competition regulator between 2011 and 2021, said Australia will have to transform its economy to meet its climate goals and the competitive structures across all industries including tech, healthcare and energy could face disruption.

"When you’re transforming the economy, you do get a chance to relook at the competitive structures. I don't know what form that will take but all I can say is that’s a very important element," he told Capital Brief in an interview.

The comments follow a government announcement today of a two-year review of "competition policy settings" announced this morning.
