Former AG Mark Dreyfus lashes NACC after being cleared over Brittany Higgins payout

Mark Dreyfus says he hopes other NACC matters "can be resolved in a timely manner".

The NACC has found there was no corruption involved in the $2.4 million payout to Brittany Higgins Richard Waiunbwright/AAP

Former Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus has taken a swipe at the National Anti-Corruption Commission after being cleared of wrongdoing over the $2.4 million compensation payout to former Coalition staffer Brittany Higgins.

Following a NACC statement on the pay-out on Thursday, Dreyfus said he wished the investigation, which took almost two years, could have been concluded “in a more timely manner”.

Former Coalition defence minister Linda Reynolds lodged a complaint with the NACC in October 2023, claiming that she was wrongly excluded from the mediation with Ms Higgins.

She said Dreyfus “manipulated the law to muzzle me" and alleged the settlement was reached after only one meeting between the Commonwealth and lawyers for Ms Higgins.
