Former Broadcom CEO Scott McGregor appointed chair of Diraq
Diraq hopes Scott McGregor can work his magic once more. His 11 years at the helm of Broadcom culminated in a USD37 billion ($51.9 billion) buyout. It’s now worth USD2 trillion.
Former Broadcom chief executive Scott McGregor has been appointed chair of quantum computing business Diraq as the University of New South Wales research spinout looks to capitalise on the billions of dollars put up by the US government to grow the industry.
McGregor, who helmed the semiconductor giant from 2005 until it was merged with Avago Technologies in 2016 for USD37 billion ($52 billion), said he looks forward to helping accelerate Diraq’s growth “as the world enters a new era of quantum computing”.
Nasdaq-listed Broadcom is now worth nearly USD2 trillion.
“The quantum computing race will closely mirror the evolution of the classic semiconductor industry, and the ultimate winners will have the most scalable manufacturing economics. Diraq’s silicon-based approach is the most promising path forward,” McGregor said.
The veteran semiconductor executive was previously the CEO of Philips Semiconductors and was the lead developer on the first release of Microsoft Windows in 1985.
