Foxtel wants Binge to be more like Peacock
Foxtel’s streaming platform Binge is set for its biggest shakeup since it launched in 2020, adding news and sport as News Corp entertains interest in a sale.
Foxtel’s entertainment-focused streaming platform, Binge, is set to undergo a strategic shift inspired by US service Peacock which will see news and sport added to the service as its controlling shareholder, News Corp, considers a sale.
The move marks the first major shakeup to the platform since its 2020 launch and comes amid uncertainty over exclusive rights to HBO programs, after Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed it will launch Max in Australia early next year.
The launch of Max in Australia will not prevent Foxtel from carrying the highly anticipated new season of the hit HBO show The White Lotus, according to Foxtel’s 2025 content slate.
The slate — which a Foxtel spokesperson said is not an exhaustive list of all programming coming to its platforms — did not, however, include other high-profile HBO releases planned for next year, such as season two of the critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic series The Last of Us.
