Fresh names surface in Nine's search for new top editor of The Age, SMH
The former head of news at the ABC and a former top editor at the Daily Mail have been floated as potential candidates for the executive editor role previously held by new publishing boss Tory Maguire.
New names have surfaced in Nine Entertainment's publishing shake-up, with the search for an executive editor of its metro newspapers The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age underway after Tory Maguire was elevated to the company's C-suite.
Two external candidates now being discussed as possible contenders for the role include former ABC News boss Gaven Morris and former Daily Mail and Fox Sports editor Luke McIlveen, multiple media industry sources told Capital Brief. Nine declined to comment.
Morris has a track record of performing in high pressure media roles, which beyond ABC News have included senior posts at Al Jazeera and CNN. He also has vast digital news experience and is now running media consultancy Bastion Consulting in Australia. Morris declined to comment.
McIlveen, a News Corp veteran, left Fox Sports in May last year amid a restructure at Foxtel. Before that role, he was the top editor of the Daily Mail Australia and news.com.au. He was approached for comment but did not respond in time for publication.
