Former Hells Angels member Angelo Pandeli sues News Corp for defamation
The filing marks the first known high-profile legal action faced by a major Australian news publisher in the 2025 calendar year.
A former Hells Angels motorcycle club member, Angelo Pandeli, has filed a defamation case against three of News Corp’s Australian publishing subsidiaries in the Federal Court, according to court records.
Pandeli, who is being represented by Sydney criminal lawyer Paul McGirr, filed the case on 3 January. The filing lists News Corp Australia’s Nationwide News Pty Limited, along with the Herald and Weekly Times, and Advertiser Newspapers as respondents in the case.
McGirr confirmed on Monday that the case was filed for defamation, but declined to comment. News Corp Australia declined to comment.
The case marks the first known high-profile legal action faced by a major Australian news publisher filed in the 2025 calendar year. Documents filed as part of the case were sought by Capital Brief but, under Federal Court rules, are unlikely to be released until the case’s first management hearing.
