'I'm back with a passion': Defiant Richard White pitches WiseTech to the market

No regrets, all business as the billionaire made his public return at the Macquarie Australia Conference.

Richard White was interviewed on stage at the Macquarie Australia Conference. Macquarie.

There was an awkward moment at the beginning of Richard White’s appearance at the Macquarie Australia Conference on Tuesday, but it wasn’t courtesy of White himself.

Introducing the embattled executive for a live interview, Macquarie analyst Andrew Gillies introduced him as chairman, founder and CEO of ASX juggernaut WiseTech. White let out a brief but unmistakable wince.

Gillies quickly corrected himself — executive chairman, and not the CEO.

"That's Andrew's role," White said, pointing to interim CEO Andrew Cartledge in the front row, to a laugh from the crowd.

The faux pas is understandable: It has been difficult to keep track of the malarkey that has characterised WiseTech’s leadership ever since White stepped down as CEO at the end of October. Several lawsuits alleging inappropriate behaviour with female employees were filed and then settled, and amid it all four board members resigned.
