IREN eyes Australian data centre expansion in 2028
The data centre company has confirmed plans to invest billions back into Australia.
Nasdaq-listed IREN CEO Daniel Roberts has announced plans to develop data centres in Australia as part of its global expansion from 2028, despite previously being highly critical of local red tape.
The former Macquarie banker and North Shore Bombers footy coach told analysts on Friday morning (AEST) that “Australia is obviously not a new idea for us” following the release of the neocloud’s Q3 earnings.
“We have been progressing large scale Australian projects towards secured grid access for some time, and we think the opportunity here is as significant as anywhere in our portfolio,” he said.
Industry group Data Centres Australia CEO Belinda Dennett told Capital Brief that the expected return of the nearly USD23 billion ($31.9 billion) market cap business to its founding country typifies that “the opportunity for Australia is right here, right now”.
