'It's not just us': Baker McKenzie's local boss pins lawyer moves on post-Covid shift
Anne Marie-Allgrove says Baker McKenzie is not the only firm finding it hard to retain partners and associates as generational change and cultural shifts sweep through the legal industry, as she eyes growth in 2024.
Anne-Marie Allgrove has been in her role as national managing partner of Baker McKenzie's Australian offices for twelve months, in a period that has seen the global law firm suffer a string of partner departures.
But Allgrove insists the losses of senior lawyers are not unique to the firm, attributing it to a post-Covid shift in the industry. "It's not just us," she says.
"Partner movement is daily news for lots of firms. As London and Singapore reopen after Covid, we're seeing a lot of movement at associate level. I expect all of our competitors are seeing the same thing."
The people movements seen at Baker McKenzie are also "part of a deliberate focus on performance, as well as a generational change", Allgrove said.
