Labor is facing the same problem on the Voice and Qantas

Labor MPs are privately questioning whether the government has been too evasive on the Voice, and the decision to block Qatar Airways from adding flights to Australia.

Originally, Anthony Albanese was not going to announce the date of the Voice referendum at the Playford Civic Centre in the outer-northern Adelaide suburb of Elizabeth.

The campaign was considering another location - Adelaide's “cheese grater” building in the CBD - for the prime minister to make today’s announcement that the referendum will be held on October 14.

The location in the suburbs was decided on because of perception. The government and the Yes campaign have been desperate to remind Australians that the Indigenous Voice to Parliament is an “anti-elitist” idea which arose out of the Uluru dialogues.

But they have struggled.

Over the last four months, support for the Voice has declined in communities struggling with cost-of-living pressures.
