Labor has tapped staffer and former press gallery journalist Adam Gartrell to run its communications team for the imminent federal election campaign.

The Albanese government has made healthcare the central plank of its messaging in recent days, announcing a $8.5 billion splurge on Medicare as it seeks to fight the campaign on safe ground for Labor.

Revealing his appointment on his LinkedIn profile, Gartrell wrote that he had worked “tirelessly in a variety of senior leadership roles to deliver tangible results for the Government and the Australian people".

“My reputation as a calm, strategic decision-maker led to me being appointed Communications Director for the Australian Labor Party’s 2025 federal election campaign,” he wrote.
