Meet Trumpland's Aussie influencers

Donald Trump's nomination of a former Ashfield councillor to a senior diplomatic post has put the spotlight on the small group of Australians who have the US president's ear.

As ambassador to the US and former prime minister Kevin Rudd works quietly to win over Trumpland, a brash former Sydney councilman is having more public success.

“Mr President, thank you for the honor of a lifetime,” Nick Adams, MAGA influencer and self-described ‘alpha male’ declared on X after he was nominated as the incoming US ambassador to Malaysia.

Adams appointment (which still needs the blessing of Congress) caps off a stunning rise for the naturalised American citizen and former suburban Sydney councilman who over the years generated headlines for wacky initiatives such as an attempt cull pigeons in his council district, Ashfield.

It has also shone a light on the handful of Australians - from media tycoons, to former golfers and billionaire businessmen – with a line into the US President Donald Trump.
