Global streaming platforms Netflix and Amazon Prime Video say they will continue to commission original productions in Australia, despite uncertainty over the federal government's legislation of local content quotas.

The federal government last week announced delays to the introduction of its forthcoming streaming quota legislation, sparking concerns within the local screen production industry about the impact on local shows and movies.

The new rules are set to take effect in July next year. But the legislative delay, producers say, runs the risk of prompting a soft pause on local commissioning plans at global streaming platforms operating in Australia, as executives await detail on their upcoming content obligations.

At least two global streaming platforms operating in Australia, however, have said they will continue commissioning local projects as the government engages in another round of consultations with the industry.
