News Corp and DAZN prepare for Foxtel deal announcement
The companies are expected to next week announce the details of a deal which will have far-reaching implications for the Australian media sector.
Rupert Murdoch's News Corp and the global sports streaming platform DAZN are putting the finishing touches on a deal for Australian pay TV operator Foxtel which the parties are preparing to announce as soon as Monday.
The Murdoch-controlled media conglomerate’s global CEO, Robert Thomson, first signalled Foxtel was up for sale during an earnings call in August. By November, he told analysts that News Corp was in “active” talks regarding the pay TV operator’s future.
Details of an agreement between the two companies could be disclosed to the Australian market as early as Monday, according to two people briefed on negotiations who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss confidential matters.
Timing could yet be subject to change, one of the sources cautioned, but the parties hope to announce the deal publicly within the week. DAZN declined to comment. News Corp did not respond to a request for comment in time for publication.
