Nine brings in former Optus Sport exec to lead its streaming strategy
Howard Rees has been tapped as chief strategy officer of Nine's beefed up streaming and broadcast division.
Nine Entertainment has tapped the former head of Optus Sport to lead its streaming strategy, as part of an effort to sharpen its streaming operation following its acquisition of the English Premier League earlier this year.
Nine’s managing director of streaming and broadcast, Amanda Laing, announced the appointment of Howard Rees as the division’s chief strategy officer in an email to staff on Monday afternoon. She said he’d drive content strategy and innovation, and work closely with the broader group strategy division.
Rees was named by Capital Brief as a contender for the role following the closure of Optus Sport in July. He’ll start on 27 August.
“This is a critical role in the Streaming and Broadcast leadership team, and I am confident Howard’s leadership skills will complement this group and our whole division,” Laing told staff in the email, seen by Capital Brief.
