Nine chases fresh Stan talent ahead of Premier League launch
Former Optus Sport boss Howard Rees has been linked with the nation's largest media company as it kicks off a recruitment drive to support its acquisition of rights to the EPL.
Nine Entertainment has kicked off a recruitment drive to service newly acquired rights to the English Premier League, as it finalises key programming plans just weeks before the tournament returns for a new season.
The media company is already looking to fill more than a dozen management and support roles at its streaming platform, Stan, and is expected to recruit further for key personnel, according to people briefed on the plans, not authorised to speak publicly.
Howard Rees, who was most recently the head of Optus Sport, is among those linked within industry circles to a possible role in Nine’s beefed up streaming and broadcast unit, which is led by former Foxtel executive Amanda Laing and is recruiting for a chief strategy officer.
Rees joins roughly 100 staff left unemployed by the Stan deal, which brought to an end the Optus Sport streaming platform after operating for close to a decade. Nine declined to comment, and Rees did not respond to a request for comment in time for publication.
