Nine set for leadership shakeup as Chessell steps aside

Media giant Nine Entertainment Co is facing a leadership overhaul with its managing director of publishing, James Chessell stepping down from the role.

The move, which is amicable, is set to be announced to Nine's newsrooms later today. The highly regarded Chessell is the last remaining figure in Nine's executive team with links to Fairfax Media, with which it merged in 2019.

Chessell is set to remain involved at Nine in a different role or in a consulting capacity which is still being worked out.

A widely respected figure in the Nine newsrooms and himself a Walkley winner, Chessell was previously executive editor at The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. Before that he held a range of senior positions at Fairfax across the metro mastheads and at The Australian Financial Review.
