Omni Bridgeway, Apple clash over court venue in ongoing patent dispute
Litigation funder Omni Bridgeway is trying to move its court battle with Apple over documents linked to a patent dispute.
A court spat between Apple and the US arm of litigation funder Omni Bridgeway has been heating up since the start of the month.
Omni has now formally requested that the iPhone maker’s motion, filed against the funder on 3 July in a Delaware court, be moved to California after talks between the companies on the issue broke down.
Apple has been trying to get hold of documents from Omni since December, which it says are linked to an ongoing legal fight with Finnish company MPH Technologies Oy in the Northern District of California.
MPH brought legal action against Apple in 2018, alleging the company infringed patents with its iMessage and FaceTime products. Omni is connected to Finnish patent owner MPH Technologies’ 2018 suit, Apple said in a 3 July court filing.
