One Nation closes in on Labor’s primary vote as its poll surge continues

Exclusive new polling shows Pauline Hanson’s party now trails Labor by just one percentage point, even as voters indicate they are more receptive to new Coalition leader Angus Taylor.

One Nation is now just a point behind Labor on primary votes, according to an exclusive new poll. AAP/Lukas Coch.

One Nation is on the brink of overtaking Labor on primary votes and more Australians have a favourable view of leader Pauline Hanson than Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, according to exclusive new polling.

The latest Capital Brief/Demos AU poll finds that One Nation’s primary vote has climbed to 28%, one point behind Labor (29%) and well ahead of the Coalition under new leader Angus Taylor (21%).

But the Liberals’ decision to axe Taylor’s predecessor, Sussan Ley, this month appears to have arrested the Coalition’s slide, with its vote remaining steady for the first time since last year.

One Nation’s surge has been largely driven by a collapse in the Coalition’s primary vote, as the Opposition reeled from its worst ever election result in May.
