The ASX-listed outfit behind Netflix’s push into pokies
A Las Vegas based business led by an Aussie is betting Netflix's blockbuster TV series Squid Game will be as big a hit on gaming floors as it is in living rooms.
Two years after Squid Game became the most-watched ever season on Netflix, the TV show is undergoing an unusual adaptation.
As part of Netflix’s first gambling deal Light & Wonder, the USD8 billion gaming company listed in the US and on the ASX, has licensed the franchise’s IP to leverage across its poker machines.
“Squid Game has these gamification elements to it, these very simple childish kinds of games, that really lends themselves to a unique gambling experience,” CEO Matthew Wilson told Capital Brief from Las Vegas.
With Squid Game racking up a record 1.65 billion hours of viewing in its first month, Light & Wonder will now try to convert that brand power into gambling dollars. The company, dual-listed on the ASX and in the US, will roll out the new games next year.
