Pollination stakes claim as nature-based investment blooms

Advising companies on what to do about their climate and environmental impact, and investing in the solutions, is now big business.

In the global race to decarbonise, more than $202 trillion of investment will be required to develop the solutions to achieve net zero emissions and reverse the damage that humanity has already inflicted on nature, according to BloombergNEF.

The market for advice and investment into these solutions has boomed in recent years, with more companies voluntarily disclosing their climate-related impacts and risks in reaction to mounting pressure from institutional investors.

The Australian government's move to make those disclosures mandatory in just a few months' time has only increased the urgency for companies seeking to measure, monitor and assess their risks and impacts from a changing climate.

Interest in investing in nature-based solutions or striving to achieve nature positivity — where an entity's actions halt or reverse nature loss — has piqued following guidance from the Taskforce on Nature-Related Disclosures last September and the federal government's forthcoming Nature Repair Market, which will allow for the creation and trading of biodiversity credits.
