Private credit is neither opaque nor too risky, says KeyInvest
The venerable wealth manager has reviewed over 300 private credit funds, developing a gateway solution and outlining the key characteristics of the very best.
Private credit is a small and often misunderstood component of Australia’s financial system, but it is growing rapidly and regulators are beginning to take notice, with ASIC now undertaking a review.
But private credit is neither entirely new nor particularly difficult to understand, according to KeyInvest, the former IOOF-SA, which has already conducted the kind of comprehensive review ASIC is now undertaking.
“Private credit is different. There are over 300 private credit funds in Australia,” says Craig Brooke, CEO of KeyInvest and a veteran banker. “The data is all there, it's just not homogenous. Yet.”
