ProRata.ai sounds out Australian publishers amid global deal streak
The Los Angeles-based AI firm is in talks with Australian publishers after finalising deals with the men's publisher Man of Many and the New Zealand publisher Stuff.
US artificial intelligence startup ProRata.ai has ramped up talks with Australian publishers over licensing agreements, as part of a global deal-making streak that includes arrangements with The Guardian and the Financial Times.
The Los Angeles-based firm signed its first Australian deal with men’s publication Man of Many, the site announced on Thursday. ProRata.ai has also finalised an agreement with New Zealand publisher Stuff, according to a person familiar with the matter who was not authorised to speak publicly.
ProRata.ai, which was valued at USD130 million ($199.8 million) in late 2023, is currently in discussions with other Australian publishers and is said to be targeting a mix of large and small companies, the person said.
Founded in January 2024 by Idealab chairman Bill Gross, ProRata.ai aims to serve media companies seeking payment and credit for the use of their content by AI platforms. Its technology is designed to allow AI tools to attribute and compensate publishers on a per-use basis.
