'Riding the political wave of interest': Australian law firms eye nuclear options

The Coalition’s nuclear-energy plans have seen international firms in Australia face a flurry of client queries and lean on in-house experts overseas.

Nuclear power hasn't featured prominently in the federal election campaign — yet —despite arguably being Opposition leader Peter Dutton's most significant policy.

But that hasn't stopped Australian law firms with international links from eyeing potential opportunities in the space.

Lawyers speaking with Capital Brief discussed an uptick in client queries in recent months around nuclear energy in the run up to the federal election.

Herbert Smith Freehills executive counsel Abbie Pokorny, who has worked on UK nuclear projects, said, “certainly, we've had a number of comments and questions that have come in from people who are interested in what might happen from a policy and a regulatory perspective”.
