Seven's Bruce McWilliam is back on the market
The key Seven West Media executive and long-time lieutenant to Kerry Stokes is leaving the company after more than two decades, and just months after CEO James Warburton announced his departure.
Bruce McWilliam, the long-time lieutenant to Kerry Stokes and a key member of Seven West Media’s praetorian guard, is known in corporate media circles as one of the most effective strategists in Australian business. Now, after 21 years, he’s back on the market.
The announcement landed in inboxes Thursday morning, and marks the end of an era at Seven, where the company’s managing director and chief executive, James Warburton, only months ago announced he too would step down, making way for his chief financial officer, Jeff Howard, later this year.
McWilliam, who hasn’t locked in his next move but is “open to opportunities”, said Warburton’s departure meant it was “probably a good time” to go, and gave Howard his endorsement on his way to the door.
“I think Jeff, who’s taking over from James, he’s a very experienced industry operator, and he joined us when things weren’t good and he sort of was very instrumental in righting it with the banking syndicate and everything,” McWilliam told Capital Brief.
