Slash immigration, ban foreigners from buying homes, back gas and nuclear: Dutton's pre-election pitch
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has put housing and immigration at the front and centre of the upcoming election fight.
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has recast the battlelines for the upcoming election, telling voters the Coalition will help solve their housing affordability and cost-of-living woes.
In his budget reply speech on Thursday evening, Dutton lashed the Albanese government's plans to spend billions of dollars to drive investment into green hydrogen and critical minerals. He said this approach and the 2024 budget were “irresponsible” and would usher in spending that threatens to worsen inflation.
Citing the rising costs facing small businesses and households, including for energy and housing, he blamed the Labor government for the inflationary pressures that have driven the cost-of-living crisis.
“Magic pudding spending and $13.7 billion on corporate welfare for billionaires doesn’t help the economy, or make your life easier,” he said.
